The Sick List

Monkey Land is in turmoil. The Cheeky One has been projectile vomiting all day. Would you like to know his schedule?

1. After his first nap
2. After his second nap
3. In the car, driving to meet my father-in-law for dinner
4. Beginning of dinner
5. Middle of dinner
6. Before Bed

Add one soft serve-esque Number Two in this schedule and we’re golden!

Essentially, I spent the day trying to comfort and sooth my son. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. He wanted me to hold him, but didn’t want me to hold him. He was tired, but he didn’t want to go to bed. He couldn’t make up his mind!

It got me thinking about how I feel when I’m sick. How irritating things are, how icky I feel. It must be the same way for him, except he can’t use his words yet. Now THAT stinks. If there was a way for us to communicate – besides the normal “Baby Cries, Mom Tries Twenty Different Things” method - I’m sure it would make both our lives easier.

Which gets me thinking, again…

For this week’s Top Ten list, I’m going to do HABL a huge favor: since he makes it a point to tell me time and again that he can’t read my mind, I’m going to write out a list for him to use the next time I’m sick! This way, he’ll never have an excuse not to do something again…

You’re welcome, babe.

The Top Ten Things I Need And Want When I’m Sick

1. Peace and quiet
2. Uninterrupted sleep – I’m on to you. When I am sleeping:
  • Do not come over and make lots of noise or sigh loudly so I’ll wake up
  • Once I’m awake, don’t pretend that I woke up ‘on my own’
  • Don’t ask me to do something for you ‘since [I’m] awake’ – I’M. SICK.
3. Hot Chocolate
4. To watch chick flicks, uninterrupted
5. To read magazines – guess how? Uninterrupted
6. Hot soup
7. Chocolate chip cookies
8. Juice – preferably guava or orange
9. Lots and lots of sympathy and TLC
10. A bag or two of chips (that I don’t have to share with you)

Oooh I remember those days the shooting vomit, and the diarrheashooting out the sides of the diaper, only to shoot out all over the couch or all over the carpet. He holding breath, hoping against hope I wont gag when I open that puppy up. Praying the other kids don't get it. Baby crying and mama walking the floor him in my arms, rocking and singing, no comfort in anything I do.
Pooor pooor baby. is he running a fever too?

I hate when my kids are sick and you can't comfort them =(
Makes me feel less a mommy =(

I always ask God, take it from them and put it on me. I can handle it, they can't.

I'm praying for Monkeys health.

OH NO, I can't imagine how it must feel to have a sick baby. I go crazy when Brewster is sick, so I'm sure this is even more.... I hope he is better soon....

Oh, sorry about the little guy! That is so hard...
My biggest thing, aside from sleep, is help. DH, just take care of the girls. You aren't going to break them, make sure they are fed and safe, and I do not need to be involved...at all!

I hate sharing chips too. Except when I'm sick, I like to whine. A lot. To anyone standing within a five mile radius.

I hope he feels better!

Loving your Top Ten List yet it saddens me ........because, since I had my kids, my "sick days" just aren't what they used to be! Wah Wah Wah!

Now let me just read your list and be in heaven again......ahhhh, nice and peaceful and quiet and GOOD.

Hope your little one is feeling better now. Projectile vomiting is just no good. Poor sweet thing!
