Once A Mother, Always A Mother

Last night, I went to my friend’s house to enjoy a child-free (for me), laughter-filled evening with lots of reminiscing and karaoke.

I went to my friend’s house to get a break from my day-to-day routine of having someone tugging on my clothing/hair/face, of dodging flying toys, and watching sports.

I went to my friend’s house to relax and do absolutely nothing.

Basically, I went to my friend's house to forget - for at least two seconds - that I was a Mother.

But what did I actually do? I held her baby because I missed mine and I tidied up her kitchen because I felt guilty just sitting there enjoying myself.

It baffles my mind how well my husband and baby have me trained.

You're right, sometimes, (or is it most of the times?) mothers don't know how to relax by themselves -- without thinking of the kids that they left behind at home. It happens to me all the time.

It's not easy to switch off Mommy mode. I think once we become a mother, our system undergoes a total re-programming... :)

sadly, i do the same things when i visit someone. i reorganize their cabinets, vacuum, help fold laundry, change diapers, and go food shopping. it never ends. i wish i could just have fun and let things go. you're right, they do have us trained. take care.

BUT...you did get in "me" time and you blessed people in the midst of it so, it all sounds good to me! :)

If it's not your child it feels like a break! Plus, babies are awesome and fun to hold!

This is so true! I always so look forward to nights out and then I spend the whole time thinking or talking about the kids. Just can't get them out of my system!
